Inspired by the traditional techniques of Singaporean craft, this incredible collection of finely made paper lamps comes from the imaginative and unconventional design collaboration Lanzavecchia + Wai. The Italian and Singaporean design partnership worked extensively with Singapore’s last remaining Lion Dance mask maker to bring these startling creations into being. Here at Dotmaison we love a good combination of practical, good looking items with an artistic edge and this collection has definitely got it!

Drawing from much the same history as time-honoured methods of mask-making, the lamps are based around bambo strips and rice paper, which is then painted a deep bright orange in the inside. Its fiery glow captures some of the passion and danger of the Lion Dance – taking it from the South-East Asian jungle and into the home.

Francesca Lanzavecchia and Hun Wai presented the Leone Series One at Milan Design Week 2011. All photos Lanzavecchia + Wai.For more information about their work please visit Lanzavecchia + Wai
