Even in today’s digital world of iPads, tablets and laptops, there is still very much a place for books. And that place for most of us is in a bookcase. Reinier de Jong certainly thinks so. His remarkable design for an extending bookcase- the REK- has just gone into production. The bookcase makes use of interlocking shelves allowing them to push outwards creating more space when required.
Photographs are by Peter van Dijk.
The different size shelves can hold objects of differing shapes – the narrow slots would be perfect for newpapapers and magazines. Measuring 228 cm at its widest the case is surprisingly light at 80 kilogrammes. For book lovers everywhere this could be the optimum space for storing your collection.
