Talented Dutch designer Pepe Heykoop – whose inventive flair we featured here back in May – has struck gold once again with these glorious Matka vases. Based on traditional Indian water carriers, called ‘matkas’, the steel containers have been covered with leathers creating an intriguing, worn look.
To produce the cases, Heykoop worked with the Tiny Miracles Foundation, a charity set up in Mumbai which aims to elevate the living standards of the poor and deprived. Part of the designer’s Skin Collection, the effect of the random patterns on the vases’ casing instills a wonderful organic feel to the items.
Testament to what inspiration and hard work can do, the Matka Vases are another suscess story for Heykoop.
