We all want the perfect nights sleep but do we neglect our beds and bedding? We look at a few simple ways to look after bedding a create a better environment to catch your 40 winks.
- Every morning, throw back the bed covers for at least 20 minutes before re-making the bed to allow for body moisture to evaporate (it also stops any bed bugs from breeding)
- If you find the duvet moves around the bed all night, buy the next size up (i.e. for a double bed buy a king size) so that it won’t move so much.
- To prolong the life of your pillows, dress with a ‘housewife’ pillow (simple cotton cover) before dressing with your usual bedlinen. This stops excess moisture infiltrating the pillow’s fabric and contents.
- Most pillows and duvets can be laundered in a large capacity machine (head to your nearest laundromat and wash one at a time) but check manufacturer’s guidelines first. Do not dryclean as toxic chemicals remain in the filling. It’s recommended to change your pillows every year for budget pillows, every 2-3 years for good quality pillows and every 6 months if you don’t launder them.
