The right linen and bedding can mean the difference between an average night’s sleep and a deep, restful experience that’ll leave you full of energy. Follow Dotmaison‘s five buying tips:
Mattress – The mattress is vitally important to ensuring a healthy night’s shut-eye. The best way to decide which to buy is to lie on it and bounce on it. Don’t be shy after all you may have this mattress for several years.
Duvet – How a duvet feels depends on the fabric it is covered with from pure cotton and linen to velvet and silk. Then there is the filling to consider. Down such as goose down and duck down are very popular fillings as are feathers and synthetic fillings such as hollowfibre. Check out the tog ratings -the higher the tog rating, the warmer the duvet.
Pillows – Some people prefer soft pillows while others prefer firmer, flatter ones. It’s very much a personal choice. Most pillows are graded soft, medium or firm and are made from similar fillings as duvets. Natural fillings include feather and down, cotton and wool. For people who have allergies synthetic fillings provide an ideal alternative.
Linen – Bedlinen such as bed sheets, pillow cases and duvet covers are made from synthetic and natural materials with cotton being the most popular. Always check out the thread count – the higher the count, the softer and more silk-like the material. Egyptian cotton is well-known for its silky, luxurious feel and is often expensive. Pima cotton in comparison is more reasonably priced, and has a smooth texture. Standard cotton is the least expensive but may not have that luxurious feel.
Size and colour – Finally and equally as important make sure the bed linen is the right size for the mattress and duvet. Also make sure the colour of the bed linen fits in with the décor of the room unless of course it is to dictate what the rest of the room looks like.
