A trip to the cinema can at times be joyful, scary or life-affirming, but sadly it’s not often that modern cinema buildings impress. Modern multiplexes of the sort that surround much of the Western world are often dull looking places and all of the beauty and action is to be found on screen. However, this amazing looking cinema in Madrid looks to be a definite exception. Designed by the Spanish architects Churtichaga+Quadra-Salcedo, this former slaughterhouse is a truly amazing looking place and perfect for a screening full of atmosphere….
The renovated space includes two cinema screens, an archive and a terrace for showing outdoor movies. Full of light and shade, the Matadero looks like a film-lovers dream.
