Mother’s Day is a celebration that takes place in many parts of the world on various dates throughout the year. Often set during the spring months of March, April and May, the date is set to honour the mother of the family and the importance of maternal ties across society. In the UK, the day is also known as Mothering Sunday and takes place exactly three weeks ahead of Easter Sunday.
Historically speaking, the 16th Century first saw Mothering Sunday appearing in the UK as a show of thanks to one’s Mother Church – or home church. This had particular significance, as it was often a time for mothers and children to be reunited after they had been working in different parts of the country. Over time, this holiday has become influenced by Mother’s Day, which is a more generalised celebration of respect for the mother’s role in society and the home.
All across the world, people celebrate Mother’s Day in some kind of fashion. Often this will take shape in the form of a celebratory meal or the offering of gifts and homewares. Here at Dotmaison, we have a few ideas for celebrating the date in style, with a luxury selection of gifts perfect for the day in question.
