Dutch designer Meike Meijer has created a series of furniture items based on images by the German artists Bernd and Hilla Becher, particular their work on types of industrial structures; including pylons, water tanks and towers. These stunning looking desks are the first to appear from the collection and have just finished being shown at the Rotterdam gallery Christian Ouwens.
This piece is based on an image of a winding tower (below) and features a display cabinet on one corner. The married team of the Bechers are best known for their black and white photographs of industrial structures. Meijer has brought these old shapes of the industrial landscape into her new collection in a skilled way with high levels of craftsmanship and design.
