When you’re buying bedding, they’ll no doubt be a range of options that you come across, but how do you know which is best for your bedroom needs?

Bedspreads are perfect for creating the boutique hotel bedroom look in the comfort of your own home. They’re designed to be an extra cover to use on the bed and, although traditionally used over sheets and blankets, they can work just as well popped on top of a duvet too.

Available in a variety of designs, finishes and colours, bedspreads can be made from simple cottons or luxurious silks.

Although we don’t tend to hear quite so much about eiderdowns these days, they are still available if you look carefully and in some gorgeous designs. The word ‘eider’ comes from the type of feathers produced by the eider duck and in the bedding sense an eiderdown means a type of quilt that is filled with eider feathers and used on a bed.

It’s ideal as an alternative to a duvet, or as an extra cover during winter, and provides a cosy layer for the bed. If you haven’t seen an eiderdown since your granny used one years ago, then take another look, as modern eiderdowns have gone glam.

Blankets and Throws

Blankets and throws serve a useful purpose of adding an extra layer of warmth to a bed in the chilly winter months, or wrapping yourself up in when you’re sitting up reading in bed. But a beautiful throw or blanket is also perfect for helping dress your bed in the daytime.

Whether you’re using a contrasting blanket or throw, or one that matches your bedding set, it can be draped creatively over the bed to provide a stylish look. Simply folding the blanket or throw lengthways several times and draping it over the duvet at the end of the bed looks tidy and mimics the ideas commonly seen in boutique hotels.
