Well it’s Christmas time again and for many of us this can signal a profound desire to travel! It can be for all sorts of reasons – the Xmas TV programmes, the visits from aunts and uncles you haven’t seen all year or simply the passing of another Winter. In any case, thoughts easily turn to getaways when presented with a magnificent sight such as the Casa Arco in Chile from Pezo von Ellrichshausen.

The architects were commissioned by a pair of artists who had been left homeless after an earthquake destroyed their home in 2010. Understandably, they asked for a house with a strong structure and firm foundations.

The impressive construction is based largely on steel and glass and should be more than a match for any natural disasters that happen its way. It can probably even handle carol singers as well!
