Buying Vintage : Antique Beds
- Antique beds are never usually standard size – we were much smaller 100 years ago – so factor in the cost of having a bespoke mattress made to order (this can be expensive).
- It might look great but is it comfortable? If it squeaks and sinks, you won’t get the best night’s sleep.
- Consider where you want to put it – modern beds dismantle to go up stairwells and through doors; make sure your antique find can physically fit into your house before you buy.
- Check that it has all its parts – vital missing bolts and screws are mostly impossible to find or replicate, rendering your bed useless.
