In recent years there has been a massive resurgence in demand for all things retro and that is certainly true about lighting. Modern designers are increasingly taking inspiration from past designs to come up with new creations. Likewise consumers are continually on the look out for lighting classics. Names such as Le Klint, Louis Poulsen and Fontana Arte are an absolute must for any collector of iconic lighting, all of which can be found on Dotmaison.
Italian lighting company, Fontana Arte, was founded in 1932 by glass craftsman Luigi Fontana and renowned architect Gio Ponti. The company’s work was first distinguished by its artistic stained glass windows as seen in the Duomo of Milan and the Cathedral of Brasilia in Brazil. By using glass, Gio Ponti realised what enormous potential this material could offer in the making of home interiors and started to design and produce furniture, lamps and objects with glass. Great lighting designs to look out for today include the Prima Signora Floor Lamp by Daniela Puppa made with blown glass.

The Danish company Le Klint is well-known for its artistically pleated lampshade designs. The original design was a folded and pleated lampshade designed by architect P.V. Jensen Klint in 1903. However the company’s first major success came in 1944 when Kaare Klint designed the Le Klint 101, more commonly known as the ‘fruit lantern’. Today it is still one of the most popular designs sold by Le Klint.
